Using the MID Query Tool

This guide explains how to use the MID Query Tool to search, create, and manage Manufacturer's IDs (MIDs).

Overview

The MID Query Tool allows users to automatically construct, search, and validate Manufacturer's IDs based on the information provided in the platform. This guide will walk you through the different ways you can use the tool.
 

1. Accessing the MID Query Tool

  • Locate the MID Field:
    • In your entry form, locate the field for the Manufacturer's ID (MID). Initially, this field may be blank or locked, depending on the data from ingestion.

    • Click on the MID Query button to start the process of creating or searching for an MID.
       

2. Searching for an Existing MID

  • Search Existing Manufacturer:
    • When you click on the MID Query button, you can search for an existing manufacturer in the platform.

    • If a manufacturer matches your search, it will be displayed.
       

    • Select the Manufacturer:
      • Choose the correct manufacturer from the list.
      • The platform will populate the MID, address, and other details automatically.

      • Click Save and Select to confirm the selection.
         

3. Creating a New MID from Scratch

  • When to Add Manually:
    • If the information in the platform does not match the details on your commercial invoice, you may need to add the manufacturer manually.
  • Add Manufacturer Details:

    • Click Add Manually in the MID Query Tool.

    • Enter the manufacturer's details such as name, street address, city, country, and zip code.
    • Example:
      • Name: Testing Manufacturer
      • Street Address: 1678 Elm St.
      • City: Los Angeles
      • Country: Vietnam
      • Zip Code: [Enter appropriate zip code]

 

The MID is generated as follows

  • The First two letters (1,2) correspond to the country of origin (VN)

  • The next three characters (3-5) correspond to the first name in the address (TES)

  • The next three characters (6-8) correspond to the second name in the address (MAN)

  • The next numbers correspond to the address number, in this example (“1678”)

  • the final three characters correspond to the city. (LOS)

    The resulting MID for this example would then be VNTESMAN1678LOS
     

  • Create MID:
    • After entering the information, click Create or Add Manufacturer.
    • The system will create a new MID based on the information provided.
    • Click Save and Select to apply the changes.

4. Generating a New MID from Fields

  • No Existing MID:
    • If there is no existing MID for your manufacturer, you may generate one from the information in the Manufacturer party fields.

  • Query the Generated MID

    • The system will run the query through customs and provide the MID.
       

5. Validating an MID

  • MID Validation:
    • To validate the MID created or selected, you can copy the MID and navigate to Customs Queries.
    • Select MID Query from the list of queries.
    • Paste the MID into the query field and run the query.
    • The platform will confirm if the MID exists and display the associated details.
